India-Singapore working on food security, green growth, and emerging tech: Indian envoy to Singapore
The India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable (ISMR), set up in September 2022, is further actively working towards cooperation in several new domains, Indian diplomat Shilpak Ambule stated.
In response to the shifting global stage in the wake of COVID-19 and ongoing challenges in supply chains, the ISMR is creating a high-level mutual collaboration platform. It aims at tapping into the increased opportunities between partners in such collaborative areas. The role that Singapore plays within those collaborative spheres is one that Ambule sees as being crucial.
“India and Singapore have a deep-rooted strategic partnership that stands on strong historical and mutual connections. In the year gone by, our bilateral relations especially in the economic, financial, and trade sectors have greatly strengthened,” said Ambule at the reception which was attended by officials from the Singapore government, various diplomats, guests, and members of the Indian community in Singapore.
He highlighted the fact that Singapore is India’s top source of foreign direct investment and the primary trading partner in the ASEAN region. Ambule highlighted the substantial but often underplayed defense and security cooperation between the respective Points of Intention of the two nations with increasing naval visits and interactions.
While referring to the collaborative efforts in the space sector, Ambule mentioned that a Singaporean satellite was carried onboard an Indian spacecraft last year.
He thanked officials in Singapore for their commitment and continued contribution towards cementing the strategic partnership between India and Singapore.
Recalling India’s role as the G20 president last year, Ambule lauded active participation from Singapore, where 11 ministers participated and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong attended the Summit in Delhi.
Concluding his speech, Ambule sent the very best wishes on behalf of the Indian community in Singapore for their significant role in fostering the growth and development of both nations and an essential link bridging India and Singapore.
